CHANGING THE WAY YOU MANAGE WASTE

It’s not just what you need to get rid of. It’s how you dispose of waste that really matters. It matters because of legislation. It matters because getting it wrong can damage pockets, businesses and reputations. It matters because when you work with the right waste management partner – a partner who handles everything from permits to recycling - life is easier.

We know effective waste management isn’t your goal. It’s the thing you need to do to create the space for whatever’s next. Yet whether your project is garden clearance or site remediation, effective waste management is our goal. It’s all we do. And we’ve been helping households and businesses do it since 1972.

Currently we recycle 80-85% of the waste we collect. We aim to increase this percentage year-on-year.

Let’s move recycling forward. Talk to GB Waste Management about skip hire and waste management services for your home or business.

We recycle 90-95% of the waste we collect.

When you leave waste in a skip or container for us, you want to be confident that as little of it goes to landfill as possible. Currently we recycle 80-85% of the waste we collect. We aim to increase this percentage year-on-year.

Here’s how we make that happen:

  • We now have two purpose-built, fully licensed waste transfer stations in East London - Silverton and Ilford. We’ve invested in new machinery, for sorting, crushing and chipping waste.
  • We’ve trained our recycling team to the certificate of technical competence (CoTC) set by Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB).
  • For our business and corporate customers, we issue waste reports itemising how much waste we collect and how much we recycle different materials. This helps you to reach your own standards for sustainability in your business.

What we’ll do:
  • assess the size and content of your project
  • give you a quote
  • tell you what we can’t take away – and advise you what you can do with it

  • load our skip
  • leave your space swept and tidy
If you have already stripped the property down and you have a pile to take away, you may prefer our wait and load service.

Hazardous waste removal

There are some items and materials that, by law, you must dispose of separately. We ask that you don’t put them in a skip.
  • Aerosols
  • Asbestos
  • Batteries
  • Contaminated soil
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Fridges and freezers
  • Gas canisters
  • Oils
  • Paints and solvents (including leftover paint in tins)
  • TV and computer screens and electronic equipment
  • Tyres
We don’t manage these waste materials on-site, but we can collect them and deliver them to a licensed site if you wish. Or contact your local council to find out how to dispose of these items safely and legally. Call us for advice on 020 7476 3050.
A site waste management plan (swmp) will help achieve sustainability targets on your building or refurbishment project.

A Site Waste Management Plan is a living document on which you record every movement of waste from your site. It should be reviewed regularly.

With everything recorded in detail, it’s much easier to see that you are hitting your environmental targets and keeping costs in check. For this reason, it’s a good idea to have a waste management plan even for your smaller-value projects. Whilst no longer a legal requirement a comprehensive SWMP may still be required for a BREEAM assessment or by the local planning authority, and are may be considered an environmentally responsible initiative by many contractors and clients.

Site Waste Management Plans typically answer the questions:
  • Who manages the waste?
  • How much waste is there?
  • When is it moved?
  • What does the waste contain?
  • Where is the waste taken to?
  • Does that depot have the appropriate permit for taking the waste?
  • How will it be managed?
We can help you draft and review this vital paperwork. Call us now on 020 7476 3050.
