Step 2: Booking your Skip.

Step 3: Planning job on the system.

Step 4: Skip Delivery Day

Step 5: Filling the skip with your waste.
Once the skip is in place, you can start filling it with your waste. Most household and garden waste are suitable for our skips, but there are certain items that cannot be placed in them. It’s essential to review the list of prohibited items before hiring a skip to ensure compliance with waste disposal regulations. Please note that our drivers are unable to assist you in filling the skip, so if you anticipate needing help, we recommend organizing additional assistance ahead of the delivery.
Step 6: Collection Day
When your 3-4 week hire period comes to an end, our team will collect the skip from your premises. If you haven’t finished filling the skip and require an extension, you can contact our office to arrange for an extended hire period. However, it’s important to adhere to the maximum fill height indicator, as our drivers are legally unable to collect a skip if the waste exceeds the indicated line.
Step 7: Back to GB Skips Yards
After collection, your waste is transported back to one of GB Skips’ two sites either Leyton or Hainault. We strategically grow our presence across London to minimize the distance our fuel-efficient lorries need to travel, thereby reducing our carbon footprint. Once the skips are offloaded, the recycling process begins.
Step 8: Processing / Sorting through the waste
Upon arrival at the site, the waste undergoes several stages of sorting before it can be sent for recycling. Initially, the largest pieces of waste, such as doors, furniture, and large wood pieces, are manually separated. The remaining waste goes through a conveyor belt and a flip flow screen, which refines pieces smaller than 10mm (referred to as “fines”) into a separate container. An overband magnetic separator is used to extract small metallic objects like screws and nails. Subsequently, the waste passes through an air classifier to separate lighter materials like paper and soft plastics, which can be further processed into fuel. The waste is then subjected to another round of manual sorting at the picking station to ensure recyclable items are not overlooked. Finally, the fines undergo a loss-on-ignition test to determine the amount of organic matter that can be cleaned and reused as soil.
Step 9: Waste sent for processing.
After passing through GB Skips’ rigorous sorting line, the waste is ready to be sent for processing. Some items are further processed on-site, such as wood that is shredded to facilitate easier recycling.
